mouse potato: similar to "couch potato," but describing an individual who sits in front of the computer of extended periods of time in order to engage (or disengage) in a leisure activity.
So we (we being me, Julie, and for a small while longer Julie’s ex’s dog Lucky...ahhhh he’s so cute, the dog, not the ex), we don’t have internet at our house...yet. it’s been surprisingly nice, I haven’t been on my computer more than 3 times the past two and a half weeks. And even then I have to walk to Starbucks or the Library. Looks like I’ve kicked the mouse potato habits I was forming at school! Hope I can keep it up when my grad program starts in the fall. I’ll probably lay down some ground rules before September.
update 7/6/2011: The internet modem has arrived! Civilized Life! Advanced Beings! Modern Society! INFORMATION! A guy came to our door last week, he was small and blonde and adorable, it was hot out, the sun shining a bright care-bear yellow, I wasn't wearing pants...so, I caved and bought Quest Internet from a local wireless provider. (At least I didn't buy $400 worth of chicken from a door-to-door salesman like some other doof I know). Anyway, these are all just excuses. Boy, am I in trouble or what?! I just get so distracted by all the digital things to explore and learn on the web, and to think that the internet is only a limited window! It's narrowed and personalized to each user. I often wonder how other people experience the internet. Probably with a higher amount of porn intake. Ha! Just kidding.
